My Foodie Baby

Our little princess Belle is not exactly a picky eater. She's more like mahina kumain. We always give her soft-cooked rice, not congee, mixed with our soup of the day, which has vegetables and meat. But she's more interested in play than eating. We are trying to teach her to feed herself, but she will not hold her spoon for long and will put it down. She will open her mouth if you feed her though. She's not picky in the sense that she has preferences for a particular food. She will say that she wants a hotdog, but she will only have a bite, then go off and play. Sometimes we give her fish, minced into her soupy rice, and she does not notice it. I hope the non-picky gene skipped Belle.
For now, I'm doing all I can to delay the day that she will ask for junk food. It can't be helped, the television is a great influencer. Soon she will ask for chips and soda. Actually, she has tried some, but I limit her intake to a few bites or sips. Just so that she will not cry for it and I quickly substitute it with her juice and crackers. I do worry about the sugar intake, so I look at the ingredient labels in the tetrapak milks. You will not believe how many of them are almost all water and sugar! The only ones with no sugar are the pure milks with no flavorings.
I don't worry so much about the carbohydrates, proteins and fats, as much as I worry about the amount of food which goes into her mouth. Truly, if I could just cram food into her mouth, I would do it.
