Gymboree Social

My mother is very worried for my children 19 months of social skills. Should I be?

My mother is always pushing the issue, my daughter needs friends. Let's play dates, Gymboree, swimming lessons, the zoo every day with other children. My daughter keeps itself in its most part, I thought this was normal. Is there a typical age when you change this and that will be interested in other children? I always thought that being a stay at home mother was a blessing, but I'm depriving my daughter of something that can give you a nursery?

ooh dear, I'm sure your MIL has all the best intentions, but it is really worrying unecessarily. Without wishing to annoy a lot of people, I think from what I've read and heard that the benefits of being at home with you immensely outweigh the advantages of being in the nursery - children at home do not in worse social conditions, sorry! That's ridiculous. Your daughter sounds perfectly normal to me - your MIL may have forgotten, but children have developmental stages with regard to their social skills and not only are capable of forming the kind of friendships at this age you're thinking! Young children often like to watch other children and doing activities with them at all, but that's about as far as I can! As a teacher of children, is not uncommon for children 4 years still be playing alongside the other and not really with others. I know your MIL has more experience than you, but it was done much time and memories fade and disorder ... reassure her (and yourself!) their Daugh is perfectly normal and all activities that are being established its great for a social life much later, when it is able to have a :-) (my oldest son is 3 and is starting to make friends that we recognize as adults but are still very "superficial" - she began with activities as does his daughter. Sahm am too.)
